Ezio something something Italian, Flying :O
AC2 Review
So unfortunately this was the only game i got for chrimbo, but i suppose it gave me more time to finish it and i have several more games i need to take out again and complete. *BTW theyre will be spoilers*
Now fortunately i never paid any attention to the hype surrounding this game before i got it, Because letting the hype get to you always lessens your enjoyment of the game when you over weigh your expectations, but this game still has to be one of the better games of 2009.
It starts off with Desmond and that girl.. escaping from the Templar base with the original animus, then you get to be your old ancestor Ezio something something Italian. The story kicks off in florence when you are a teenager, fighting with some other douche bag and for the first few hours without weapons and the most boring of sidequests, then half of your family gets hung and the story starts to get somewhat exciting, you finally get weapons, but then your subjected to having to walk half the city along with a bunch of hookers for an hour, you also then get to realise that the building are all the same from AC1 copied and pastad into this with a new lick of paint, but i guess thats the same with just about everything in the game. The only really big thing that was added to the game is the monttengri villa, where after a while your basically given ownership too and are allowed to upgrade the shops and store your weapons etc.. The only real big addition to the game apart from being able to buy weapons, maps, armour and medicine.
Now one thing i liked alot more about the first game was the setting, the ‘holy land’ and the stories and myths surrounding the middle east are far more interesting than Italy during the renassaince
Ezio isnt as dull as Altair but id hardly call him a good character as hes bland and generic as an american action film star.
People including myself complained about how repetitive the missions were in the first, and while they do add a few new thing here and there, its still very repetitive, unlike some people say, its still all run here, kill this guy, escape, climb this ladder etc..Not so much as the first but not a great deal better
The variety of the cities and the size of the general landscape is impressive, and still contain all the huge viewpoints dotted around the cities and countryside, but thankfully there are alot of collectables in this game, so at least you have something to do when you finish the main story, and i do advise you to solve all of subjects 16’s hidden codes as it does reveal quite an interesting ‘truth’
The game itself contains quite a bit of anti religious statements, and i would not advise any ‘ hardcore ‘ (lol) Christians to play the game as your bound to get offended by the weird but ultimately very entertaining and intruiging version of how man-kind came into existence by these humanoid creatures with silver sellotape stuck to there arses
The main woman (Eve???>>) who tells Ezio of the prophecy says that humans were created in the image of themselves, which i think pays homage to the German poet Johann Wolfgang von Goethe, who’s famous quote of ”God did not create us in his image, we created him in ours”
Theres alot of different interpretations to be taken from the story. But after you find all that out surprise surprise the templars are waiting for you downstairs in the hideout… And for some reason during the game you skip some of the memory sequences and skip 10 years later in the game, ezio barely looks different =/ Hes for some reason gotten white rather than tanned and has a beard…for some reason directors and film makers seem to think that people dont age or change at all in the period of 10 years >.< Something that i noticed in alot of games and films
Overall, its a very good game and quite a big improvement over the first but not as big as some people make it out to be. But when it comes to GoTY Uncharted 2 is still the better game and rightful holder of all those awards it has won
Also for those with a fondness of trophies its a very easy platinum, just time consuming….. Another dirty thing ubisoft have done tho, is that they cut the DLC out of the game and are now going to sell it, they thought it was better to keep the story time down and cut it out and are now set to profit from it …. Which i dont agree with what so ever, and seems like something all games developers are now doing
Score: 7.8\ 10
Good game and well worth a few of your gaming hours, but not the second coming of Christ like some proclaim it to be
