Ive seen allot of talk, threads & discussions about this game. And Ive heard news of the countless others, like the more recent news of DJ Hero.
Ive seen the guitars. They’re nice looking, are the same shape as a guitar, recognisable as a guitar, and I’m guessing make “guitar noises” when you press their buttons. Ive played it in for awhile in some shop demos. But for the life of me I don’t get it.. At all.
Why play a game, with a controller costing the price of a cheap guitar. When you can have the real deal? Especially when the real deal can be magic.
Show me someone who doesn’t believe in magic, and I’ll show you someone who hasn’t seen a great musician play. Surely a game cant bring this magic to the TV screen? Surely it cant replace that feeling you get when playing an instrument?
At the moment I feel like telling all those people who play the game to “drop it straight away, pick up an instrument and play. Cant play an instrument? Learn one”
But I cant, I haven’t properly played the game… I need an answer here. Whats the deal with these games?
Good question. I used to play Guitar Hero quite a bit, and right now, I don’t understand why. They’re generally just fun rhythm games. But I also think some people play them to get that feeling of playing a guitar without going through the years of pain and practice of learning a real one. Of course the games also get tons of people (including me) to pick up the actual instrument.
I think I get it a bit more now thanks. Although I think I’ll have to play it sometime to get a real feel for it
Speaking as an actual guitarist, i love guitar hero.
It’s a right hoot with mates, and requires some different skill to playing a guitar (rhythmic timing perfection as opposed to good fretting, position changing, and avoiding ‘twanging’).
A drummer or singer would probably feel right at home.
The only annoying habit i have when playing gh is hammer ons. I often add hammer ons to my standard playing, simply to give something more flow, but attempting one where not specified in gh loses your streak.
After playing using the drum controller i now understand the alien concept of playing gh, but it’s a right laugh, especially on the more difficult settings
