So after returning home on a 4 hour to London, I have to say the experience was well worth it, I’ll add details to all the games I witnessed and played (mostly) right now, and hopefully include everything I want to say.
So we (Josh and Math) started off with Battlefield: Bad Company 2, all I can say is, WOW, they really stepped up the mark and are looking to crush MW2, there was only one map available but it was huge and was rich with detail. New vehicles including a quad bike were up for grabs and the controls were very tight and stable (this is the 360 version, so adjusting for me was difficult but I managed very well). Gun combat is much tighter again, gone is the emptying a clip into the enemies head to kill them, it’s far more realistic and easier to kill people. Also you can sprint and use the knife at the same time, which means there are situations where pulling out the knife and chasing some one is a better option then emptying a clip into them before they turn around. I came back to the game numerous times on the day, and without bragging always came up top and had a few humorous moments with me trash talking the competition just standing yards away from me.
After finishing off BC2 for a while with Josh and Math, we wandered around a bit to find an open booth, we found Avatar on the Wii, and to save time, it was awful, truly rubbish even for the Wii, skipping ahead of myself, I tried out the PS3 version later and it was just as bad, there were more booths for Avatar than BC2 which really annoyed me as the game is just a crap movie tie in, and was a waste of valuable space.
Onto a more popular game, Assassin’s Creed 2, now I didn’t get a chance to play this, for some reason there were only 4 booths for this, even though Uncharted 2 had 8 and is already out, but after watching for a brief moment the graphics have had a much serious upgrade, although in the cutscene there were some odd issues with the eyes of the characters, it just seemed a bit prophetic to me. Gameplay has improved and the climbing aspect altered a bit, I noticed that the rooftops of Venice also have thieves just chilling up there for no apparent reason, which lead to some moments where the player punched a few in the face, good stuff.
Now for Lost Planet 2 (With Mitch too) wasn’t much of a fan of the first but I seriously love the graphics on this one, this one for the PS3 and it looked darn great, almost like a Crysis TPS, but then it has seemed too suffer from odd controls, beside me making a point that to reload you have to press R3 and to zoom in on your rifle press Down and Square to do fuck all, I was left bewildered and stuck with these oddly chosen controls. Gun combat isn’t too great either, instead of a typical TPS where the cursor points your character in the direction you want it to go, you sort of drag the cursor across the screen instead, making things pretty hard to play at the start. The game also only had one map and game mode, and it didn’t really interest me sadly.
Now this will piss any Nintendo Fanboy off, me and Matthew just walked over to not seem ignorant but then were thrown some Nunchucks to play Super Mario Bros. for the Wii. Nintendo is emphasizing a huge deal about being able to play with 4 players, not sure if this is online as well, I doubt it, but I gotta say, NOTHING hadn’t been done before, all I could think was how Little Big Planet had already done every I experienced and better, better graphics, better charm, customisable characters (Rather just different colour Toads), the ability to make any level your imagination can think of, and FOUR players ONLINE. I could see this being for Nostalgia people, but I’m pretty sure the level design is not the exact same as the original, so really, LBP has already done everything 100x better, the only thing SMB has over it is power ups, but that’s hardly an issue when LBP crushes it so many other levels.

We decided to hit the PSP Go cafe for a break, the place was awesome, nothing could top it beside an Opium Den, it had round tables with PSP Go’s in the centre for our pleasure, each one had different games on it, although I had poor titles on mine (Sudoku for one) Josh happened to have LBP and Gran Turismo, whilst mine too had Gran Turisom I’m not a fan of racing, so I’ll just state the graphics were excellent for handheld and just assume it was satisfactory for GT fans.
Beside just the round tables for 8 people to enjoy, they also had these relaxing ball things (See picture) with PSP’s attached too for us to chill out, some people had even fallen asleep in the place, it was great environment and would love something similar where I live. We also got interviewed here by the guys at EuroGamer too, hopefully the video will get destroyed as you can see me in all my displeasing glory.

Once we finally left the PSP Go cafe, we headed off to the Splinter Cell Conviction showing, after getting lost and me almost leading the group down the basement, we finally made it at the back row to witness something of pure awesome. Now I’m infamous for hating Ubisoft, but they really convinced me here when we bear witnessed to a 10 minute clip of the new game. The graphics, stunning, the atmosphere, excellent, the fast paste action that seemed to scrapped the slow pace of the previous titles gone, it was great. Sam Fisher is a new total bad ass, after revenge for his daughters murderer (Think Liam Neelson in Taken, plus dead daughter) it was great. My only one complaint, it SHOULDN’T be a Splinter Cell game, it could have been anything else and you’d never say it was a Splinter Cell game, they should have just started a new series, rather then use a redundant title for the series.
That was pretty much it for me, I did check out a few odd games like Tekken 6 (I BEAT MITCH AT ONE ROUND) and Ratchet Clank (Managed to cause the game to crash and go to a black screen after just 10 seconds of touching it), one game I did check out that I didn’t really know anything about was Split Second, I believe it’s a 360 exclusive, my only thing to say about that, it’s just a Burnout clone, with non self explanatory controls.
Overall I had a great day, meeting the guys (Mitch, Josh and Matthew) was great too, I imagine I didn’t meet expectations with how much of a loud moth arrogant douche I am online, but the guys were great anyway, and would love to do it again next year.
